Since 1999, this Pilates studio has been a staple in the Bloor West Village community, offering a unique blend of fitness classes suitable for every body type and meeting a diverse range of fitness tastes and goals.
Former professional dancer and certified Pilates instructor Barbara Grant first introduced Pilates to the Bloor West Village community in 1999 by offering group classes at Swansea Town Hall. “I wanted to become a Pilates instructor because Pilates made my body make sense to me. It made my body more capable. And that is what I want to share with my clients,” says Barbara.
Demand for her classes hit the roof and within a matter of months Barbara opened Retrofit Pilates (originally called Retrofit Bodyworks) in Windermere Court at the corner of Bloor and Windermere. The studio became one of Toronto’s premiere centres for Pilates, winning numerous awards including Toronto’s Best Pilates Studio several years in a row.
In 2007, the need for extra space forced an expansion. Retrofit Pilates now occupies two studios in the same complex. The upstairs studio (suite 206) houses the 12 reformer machines while the ground floor studio (suite 106) provides ample space for mat, barre, springboard and chair classes as well as a private space for one-on-one sessions.
