Returned to New Treasure after an absence of a number of years. Quiet Sunday afternoon. Place was only a third full. Decor is a little old & dated. At that time of the day they don't have the carts but offer a pick-your-own menu. Made 8 choices of the standard fare. Food arrived quickly & very hot. However freshness seemed to be lacking in a couple of the dishes. The shui mai & a shrimp dish tasted "old" (freezer burn?) but the hairy yam/pork balls were delicious. Possibly a bit of a hit or miss. Service was fine & competent. Still looking for a good, downtown dim sum place but I would return to New Treasure. Total price for 2 including tax but not tip, $20.00
Right on Dundas and Elizabeth, this little gem is sort of hidden downstairs. My Chinese friends refer to it as 'the basement' rather than its name. The bigger the group, the cheaper the meal. Dim Sum is good and very inexpensive ($2.20 - $3.70 per item). If you are going for lunch during the week, get there EARLY as it fills up very quickly. Once you have had lunch there, you will understand why. The Dim Sum is served from carts, so there are times when some of it may not be as hot as it should be, but I have never found that to be a problem since the food is very good. The decor is very basic with plastic table clothes, but the restaurant is quite clean, so that is not a problem. I go there regularly and recommend it.
Calamari was great. Egg plant just good. Price very reasonable and staff very pleasant
If you feel like some excellent dim sum for lunch, do yourself a favour and get seated early. This place fills up VERY quickly... the local business people flock here. 11:35-11:45 for lunch is a better idea than noon. The staff is good, food is fresh, tea is promptly placed on your table when you arrive. There are quite a few choices on the never-ending parade of 'carts', some of the poorer sellers get cycled passed your table a few too many times. All-in-all, one of the best dim sum experiences I've had in Toronto. Inexpensive, tasty, friendly, busy.
I am a loyal New Treasure customer. I've been going here for the past 5 years and I always order the siu mai, har gow, deep fried pork dumplings with white rice - it never disappoints. The siu mai always tastes so fresh and they are HUGE in comparison to other restaurants. I love coming here because it's never busy so service is always extremely fast. The prices are very reasonable too. I have yet to find something to complain about.
We have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years. Best Dim Sum in town!
Excellent food, good service. The restauraunt is a bit frenetic at lunch but that's part of the charm. Ming the hostess/owner will treat you like royalty.
Although some of the personnel do not speak English very well, the dim sum is served by cart, so you can pick what you want. Cart service is available from noon to 1:30 every day of the week. The prices are great with dim sum ranging from $2.00 to $3.50 peritem. There are also daily special dishes, such as Singapore noodles for under $6.00. For these prices, it is an excellent choice and the food is pretty darn good.
