haven't been to the Mekong in a while, but decided to try it again the other night, service was very good, our waitress was very attentive and our orders ariived in a timely manner. We ordered a couple of appetizer, they wer ok, nothing special. The prawns in chili tomato sauce were exceptional, cooked to perfection. normally we don't come into the city for chinese food, but i will definitley return.
I used to love this restaurant but tonight we went, were seated promptly and then totally ignored. After 50 minutes, we had not received our appetizers or any attention. The waiters turned the other way when I tried to get their attention. Starving and annoyed, we walked out and went elsewhere.
The WORST food I've ever eatin in China Town. ? Greasy noodles , Mushy Vegetables , and wet Salad Rolls ? GROSS ! I will never eat here again . MUCH BETTER restaurants in the neighborhood ! ! !
Have been patrons for over 12 years & our last few visits have been very disappointing... we convince ourselves to go back only in the hopes that it might have been an off night, but it appears not... sadly. The overall quality of the food is now considered to be fair - having dropped from outstanding as in the past when they were establishing. E.g.Thai seafood soup would be loaded full of shrimp, calamari, baby scallops, mussels and topped full in the bowl - now it simply arrives a little more than 1/2 full with a 3-4 shrimp & the rest musssels. The General Tao chicken was the latest greatest disappointment - it was simply lacking in the outstanding taste of days gone by... when it was considered to be the best in the city - only no more! It would appear that they have been successful in establishing themselves as a premier restaurant based on top quality food but have now dropped the ball on quality, quantity and what "regular" dedicated patrons have come to expect. AND, as well the prices have also risen substantially, sadly not reflective of the current dismal quality. Too bad they have allowed their success to adversely affect their cuisine with short cuts, cutting corners "to make do", and what their very clientele has come to rely as exceptional cuisine. Too bad they're chosen to take their clientele for granted and to think we wouldn't notice! Perhaps when they see the end of the day/ week/ month ticket receipts they will get the message and look to re-invent themselves with the superior quality they were known for, and we all enjoyed. It's a competitive market out there and if not on Somerset St., then elsewhere --- the Thai/ Vietanmese restaurants are everywhere it just finding the jewel again, like we did with Mekong in their early days, when they cared to deliver!
Great food. Go with a large group so you can sample different dishes. With drinks it came to about $20 per person. You can't do that everywhere. Great spot for us over the past several years
