In 1978, when Craig Richman was completing his social work program, he opened a community-based child welfare program and three group homes for children and adolescents with mental health issues and called it HumanaCare. For 21 years, he ran the group home, while also running a separate arm for what was then referred to as “Industrial Psychology” – an Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP).
Employers retain Employee and Family Assistance Programs to give workers free access to experts that provide counselling and support for life management, ranging from marital problems or divorce to personal issues, like stress and depression.
