We were visiting the area from Paris On, had diner here, best meal I’ve had in along time. Meal was excellent, dessert was delicious. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Five Stars is not a high enough rating
Christine was our server (and photographer!) and she did a wonderful job of making us feel welcome. Two of us at the table had wraps, and two had club sandwiches. Each order was served with soup and a summer salad, and each was not only beautifully plated but also tasty. The ingredients were fresh and the flavors were carefully combined. The ambience is country-casual, very relaxing and calming. Fresh flowers were on each table. Thank you for a great dining experience! We will be back!
What a great dinner. So nice being totally satisfied for a change. Recommendations; if you have 2 people do not order 2 salads; one salad is lots for 2 people; the entree list has something for most everyone; we both had a steak and shrimp entree which was excellent but again more than we could eat; dessert menu looks great too but we just had no room for them. You need to leave room to try them. We will next time. Definitely worth the drive. We will be back.
Website indicates prices but only one appetizer shows a price. It would be fair to show all prices rather being shocked when you arrive ... especially when your title area indicates prices to be shown.
This is my all time favourite restaurant. The big greek salad is a favourite. The Tuscan Chicken, Pickerel and Pepper Steak are excellent! The staff here are wonderful and the atmosphere is great.
Very enjoyable. However the portions are FAR too large for the average Canadian. Doggy bags (containers) are available but the patron has to fill them - that's a first ! I would suggest that the size of the portions and the pice should be reviewed. Had we received a smaller portion at a lower price we would have stayed for coffee and desert.
The best dining experience in the Ottawa Valley, nestled in picturesque and historic Burnstown. We have dined here ever since it opened, and have yet to be dissappointed! Every dish is outstanding, made with fresh flavourable ingrediants.... satisfying proportions, well balanced, and done to perfection. Both the appetizers and desserts compliment any entree on the menu. The quaint atmosphere and hometown service only add to the culinary pleasure. This is what food should taste like, and this is what makes dining out such a treat. The Blackbird Cafe is a complete package!
The only weak item is any main course with pastry e.g. chicken pot pie and that is only because it is heated in a microwave which makes the crust flabby and tough at the same time. Everything else is delicious. Unlike the previous reviewer, I have never experienced rudeness. They have one cook - I don't know how the reviewer could have expected 8 people to get served at the same time if everyone ordered something different. We make frequent trips from Ottawa to have lunch at this establishment.
This place is a hidden gem. My fiancé and I stopped in for a coffee, but were pursuaded by the server and the menu to share a club sandwich. They offer a half a sandwich and soup combo for two, so we had that. The quality of the ingredients blew us away! I consider myself to be quite a "foodie" (others have called me a food snob!), so I am not easily impressed. However, this café impressed me. The club sandwich had generous slices of chicken breast meat, crisp bacon, sprouts and tomatoes. It was the best club I've had in...well, I don't remember having an equal in another restaurant, ever, to be honest. No place in Ottawa that I've aware of can touch the food here. Also, the coffee was good and the cake. Oh my! Can I just say that I would get in my car and drive from Toronto for that cake! It was divine. I don't usually enjoy lemony desserts, but this was the kind of cake I remember from my childhood. A generous piece served with real whip cream. We shared a slice, and we both scraped the plate to get every last crumb and licked our forks clean!! Yes, it was that good. The only criticism I could come up with was that the chicken noodle soup was on the salty side. Other than that, the entire experience was wonderful. Cannot wait to return!
I enjoyed a delicious smoked salmon special and salad with homemade dressing. This was the third time I have eaten at the cafe and each time I have found the quality of the food to be excellent. The service was attentive and the atmosphere friendly. The owners have managed to tastefully decorate the space while preserving the atmosphere of an old country store in a picturesque small town.
Extremelly well run small restaurant!! Really good gourmet selection given that it is only a 24 seat restaurant. Of course there are far fewer choices than at a large, crowded city bistro with 10 staff in the kitchen. That kind of choice is not to be expected by a rational, sensitive person. The small town, quaint ambience is what counts in a quality establishment like the Blackbird Cafe. We have been there three times and enjoyed it immensely every single time and would go back there again and again and again!!
Amazing food, beautiful atmosphere, highly recommended
Lunch and Coffee was just under $40.00 which was a little pricy, But the portions were adequate and the coffee was pretty good along with the service
This establishment forces any group over six to restrict menu selections to three. Have you ever tried to get four women and four men to agree who will eat what when there are over 25 Entre choices? This is ridiculous - if a restauarant can sit 24 people, if they can't serve 20 Entres then they should only offer 10. If there were 12 tables of two, no one would be told they could not order what is on the Menu - so what is the differnce with a table of eight and eight tables of two? We asked that this "rule" be waived - two of our group were prepared to walk out - but whoever was in charge refused and rudely said that if we did not like it, to indeed leave. Because of this nonesense, none of us ordered wine or an appetizer or desert or coffee - we ate and left, leaving the business over $300 short of what the total tab would have been. This is reflected in my low service rating which also reflect the rude attitude of the manager. (It was getting late or we would have left). Finally, while the food is very good indeed and the portions generous, the prices are excessive. My meal was $26 and it was an $18 plate. Escagots, if you wanted them, were $14! If you feel rich and wish to try this place out then be sure to make reservations and remember that if your party is over six you will have a very restricted menu We will certain not be back.
