I have been a fan & regular at this restaurant for over 12 years now. I used to live near the restaurant so I was there for lunch & dinner when possible. I have noticed that in the last 6 months, the quality of the food has gone REALLY down! Most of the curries have so little meat/chicken etc. and are filled with weird combinations of vegetables that I have never had there. Cold rolls are much smaller & not made very well - rice paper is tough & vegetables are not fresh. They always forget items for take-out even if they are paid for. The meat for the satay's is so tough now, it's almost like a piece of leather. Not sure what has happened, maybe a new owner, but this isn't the Royal Orchard Thai Restaurant that I used to know & love.I'm not sure if I will make the trek back to Thornhill from Stouffville to eat there anymore OR get take-out. VERY disappointed!
Love this restaurant! Best green curry beef i've ever had. Just the right amount of spices and if you don't like it super spicy, they can make it milder for you. Appetizer combo platter was simply divine! Cold rolls, satay's, shrimp rolls etc., I could have eaten the entire thing as a meal! My husband had the Thai BBQ Steak - all I can say is WOW...so delish! Cooked to perfection with the most delicious Thai sauce for dipping. The cashew nut chicken is the best i've ever had, so many flavor's, it is heaven in a bowl! Very delicious and very authentic.
I think they are going down. The food is good and I appreciated the decor and the garbs but at the new higher prices I can think a few places I rather go most notably anywhere near Yonge & Steeles like any of the restaurants on 100 Steeles West!
I went there a few times only because it is the only Thai restaurant around my place. Too bad. Everytime, I was not satisfied but did give them a few more chances. Now, i will not go back at all. First of all, the price is slightly more than usual Thai restaurants. However, the food quality, plates, and service quality were very cheap I would say. The shirimp chips were from a bag I believe and rice was cold already. Curry was watery and Pad thai didn't have any flavour. The plates were horrible - plastic. Can u believe this? (It is not called Food court!) The service isn't good either. Very minimum. Overall, very disappointed quite a few times.
My dining companion and I started the meal off on a pleasant note - with a hearty laugh and some excellent chicken satay. (The best I've ever had... Ever.) However the dining experience sank after that appetizer. I was greatful that the pad thai wasn't swimming in ketchup, as is popular in far too many locations elsewhere, but it had very little flavour at all. The shrimp on placed atop the house pad thai had no spice or seasoning at all, and it was *very* clear that they had not been cooked with the rest of the dish, but simply pulled from a package and dropped on top of the pad thai. (There were three shrimp, for anyone who wants to know) The chicken red curry was adequate... the curry itself was very watery, but didn't have a bad flavour and wasn't lacking in chicken. For the price (Slightly expensive - around 25$ per person) I'd buy the chicken satay again (10$ for four) but the rest.... Was a miss. Just a little note about the amusement shared at the start of the meal: Looking in the window from outside, my dining companion and I were both impressed at the classy looking decor... But as we approached our table, we couldn't help but drop our jaws. Each place was set with a lavender cloth napkin folded rosebud, hand engraved silverware, clean glasses, and -get this- plastic plates featuring a printed confetti pattern. I know that's not really food related, but we were giggling over it until our food arrived. The lovely rich atmosphere, and in the center of each place setting... a cheap party plate!
I have been and enjoyed everything at the Royal Orchard Thai Restaurant. So upon reading the rave reviews by Joanne Kates, I asked my girlfriends to take the drive up north and come for lunch! They got the order wrong and when I corrected it, they were put-off. When our meal came it was cold. We didn't send it back, since my friends and myself didn't want to complain. I was so very disappointed since I have had great meals there and I loved the new decor.
Lunch was inexpensive and delicious. Good service and lots of food! Yummy!
Over the past 5 yr. I have eaten at R.O. Thai. Both the service and food has been excellent. There has been a change in the spices since the renovation. Sauces are not as creamy but still good.
wonderful neighbourhood restaurant. could stand the test with the best.
The curry was delicious - the 3 chili rating was indicative of the spice level. Tom Yum soup was tasty, but could have been slightly more spicy. Pad Thai was very good too. Overall, quality of food is excellent. The one downside was that the portion of rice was very small.
the food was excellent the service was so-so. she messed up one of our orders and then brought out the corrected order far too late. food quality is excellent
Great cuisine - Warm service - quiet and comfortable ambiance - newly renovated interior, simple and sophisticated look
