I came in and was glad to find friendly service, delicious food and great prices. I ordered enough food for a family gathering and it was the highlight of the night. I would come here again any day.
When I first came to Port Hope as a ambitious Chinese immigrant with no money, no friends and nowhere to go, I was not sure of what my life in Canada entailed. For weeks, I went to interview after interview with the very little experience I had, trying to get any job that would allow me to merely place some food in front of me everyday. However, in Port Hope, where immigrants make up a shockingly small minority, I had to not only overcome the barriers of language and culture, but also the racial barrier that was monolithically placed upon me.
However, one day, I stumbled upon Five Star and with a longing for my homeland, I went in and ordered the chef's special. Having not much money, I was delighted by the prices for the food that they offered. The friendly, smart and pretty waitress took my order and since then, it was an experience not to forget.
Having a bite of the chow mein brought be instantly back to my childhood, in a country for which I forever longed. I was surprised to find myself indulging myself in such scrumptious entities which instantly brought tears to my eyes. The first meal was very hard for me to comprehend, but this small fragment of familiarity allowed me to make a goal in life. It was at Five Star that my life started and although I am a very successful computer programmer with a beautiful wife and kids, I cannot repay Five Star for what it has given me through the beautiful art of food and cooking.
